Hello there and welcome to my new blog. This blog is all about my journey in running! I hope you will bear with me and follow along with me as I tell you my daily happenings in my monkey toe shoes (aka Hubby calls them that!). So welcome pull up a seat and we will get started!
I am Rae Ann for those of you who do not know me. I am a wife, homeschooling mom, daughter, sister, and a friend! My journey running started a little over a year ago with an eye opening experience. I had gone to the doctor in Nove 2009 to have a ruptured cyst removed off my chest, when he went to check my weight Iwas in TOTAL SHOCK....never did I imagine my weight to be over 200 lbs, yep it was 231. I made a commentment to myself right then and there that if Iwas going to be around to see my girls have children then I need to get healthy. So as soon as I got on my feet I started making changes. Life style changes!
I could not even walk a mile without being winded. SAD....very sad! So I started walking everyday. I then started walking mornings and nights to increase my mileage and when I got comfortable with a mile, I pushed it to two miles. Then I increased it to three times a day and increased my mileage. I also took notice that our community rec. center had a weightlifting room, so I would go lift some weights having NO clue as to how to lift weights. I would just go and do the best I could, there was couple older gentlemen who would come and lift and I would watch what they did and ask questions. I learned some and followed thru with that until I discovered my LOVE.............ZUMBA. Oh my, I just cannot tell you how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE, did I say I LOVE ZUMBA!!!! oh I do. It is the most fun workout you can do. So on top of walking, lifting weights, I started Zumba too! At which time I had already lost 30 lbs. Zumba added a cardio workout and I lost even more weight! I had reached my first goal of getting below 200 and was ready to reach my next goal of 175lbs. April rolled around and with being at 175, I was ready to take on something new and kick up my workout so I started working with a personal trainer.......it got serious at this point. Working out, walking, ZUmba, lifting weights, and now YOGA too!!!! WOW, I seriously had no idea that all this exercise could be so much FUN. Yes, I said FUN. The pounds and inches were still coming off and I was thrilled, met my next goal of 160lbs and was thinking about what the next goal should be. So I talked it over with personal trainer and together we set a goal of 140 lbs. and started talking about BMI numbers. Let me tell you my body fat in March was in the OBESE range.....so NOT good. However, by the time the next Nov rolled around I was in the healthy range and on the low side of it!!!! So from April til October I worked hard and started to introduce running into my daily activites, decided in Sept that I would run a race in Nov. on Thanksgiving day......Turkey Trot Race 10k. I did and I finished with good time! I was pleased with my self and found another new LOVE....running. Running is like a huge stress reliever for me and it is my time! There is no kids, dogs, hubby, phone, computer.....just me and nature! Awwwww.....my little piece of Heaven on Earth! So I decided to sign up for a 1/2 marathon, I did and it is coming up in April. I have maintained my weight at 135- 140 lbs and I am so happy and have tons of energy.
People ask me all the time what diet I am on. I am NOT NOT NOT on a diet, I just eat healthy and make healthy choices when it come to food....that is another post!
Hope this inspires you to make some goals and get healthy!
